YFC INTERNS

Home YFC INTERNS
What is it?

YFC INTERNS is a part-time gap year programme for 18-25 year olds that provides a unique opportunity to grow as an individual and leader, deepen your relationship with God and get involved in an innovative, dynamic ministry with young people on the margins and outside of church.

How does it work?

We believe in building up and encouraging young leaders who are passionate about seeing young people transformed by encountering Jesus.

As an intern you will be part of the wider YFCNI team as well as being an integral part of a local centre, working on the ground with young people in a placement location. You will be managed and supported by the Centre Support Coordinator for YFCNI. Your placement Centre Coordinator will carry out direct ministry supervision as you work alongside staff and volunteers involved in delivery of programmes on the ground.

The Intern programme is part-time, 3 or 4 days a week and runs from September ’22 to mid-August ’23. The first few weeks will involve training, mostly delivered at YFCNI National Office, Belfast.

Unfortunately YFCNI cannot offer accommodation, so it is important that you can get to and from your placement location using your own form of transport. A small mileage allowance will be given.

The Internship costs £750. We encourage you to invite your family, friends and church community to get behind you and support you prayerfully and financially as you embark on the internship for a year.

Placement locations for 22/23 include:

Crumlin YFC – Craigavon YFC – Ards Peninsula YFC – Comber YFC (The Net) – Donaghadee YFC – YFCNI Comms & Media, Belfast

You can read more about each placement location below. If you choose to apply, you will be asked to give a first and second preference for where you would like to be placed. We will do our best to work with you and each centre to place you in one of your preferred placements as far as possible.

We are really excited and expectant for YFCNI Interns 22/23 and would love you to join us. If you want any more information, please get in touch at leanne@yfcni.org

Ards Peninsula

The Ards Peninsula project works across the whole Peninsula with a current focus on Ballywalter, Carrowdore and Portaferry with 3 different drop- in nights.

We enjoy wide support from a range of churches and agencies, but over the next year we want to further develop these relationships as well as use the tools of Kintsugi Hope well-being groups to develop after-schools work in Carrowdore and Ballywalter in particular. We would also love to see an intern help re-kindle previous work we had started in Greyabbey and also Portavogie, primarily through detached work leading to other centre based initiatives.

This is a really exciting time for Ards Peninsula and we would love to have someone come and play an integral part in developing and growing the ministry as you join the team.

Comber, The Net

Comber Youth For Christ is an exciting youth provider in County Down that seeks to engage children and young people, support their whole person development (mental/emotional/physical/spiritual) and help them to reach their fullest potential.

This is achieved through our 3 areas of engagement: centre based provision – schools based provision – community based provision

It is through our combined provision approach that we pray to see the community of Comber transformed by the love of God, where young people will know they are loved, valued and accepted.

It is our dream to expand our provision into our newly developed space to increase our provision into specific areas of engagement (ie. Mental health, intergenerational projects, BAME project, youth alpha). We long to go deeper with young people, helping them understand the world better and their place in it.

We would love an intern to join the team who is passionate about Jesus and young people. Our hope for the year is that they will grow spiritually, personally and professionally. As an intern you will be involved in helping maintain and deliver some of our current session provision, while also assisting us in pioneering others – paving the way for our future engagement with children, young people, families and the wider community.

Craigavon

Craigavon is for the most part a catholic/nationalist community with a small pocket of republicanism in 1 particular area. Although Craigavon may be known for its great shopping centre and a drive through Starbucks, that does not define it. On the other hand, Craigavon may be known in a more negative light by the organised crime culture, high addiction rate, struggling education system and the poverty but Craigavon is a beautiful and unique place which you will only get a glimpse of when you walk its streets and talk to the people. We work mostly with at risk, vulnerable and challenging young people but they are wonderful to work with.

We are in the process of establishing a YFC Centre right in the heart of Craigavon and we are aiming to complete work and open by September or October! The plan for this is to simply continue the work that we have been doing as well as to establish a new rhythm in our new CYFC home.

As an intern you will be part of the team to help establish the YFC centre in Craigavon. Before we look at the work that is to be done, we will work to lay down good foundations of prayer and seek God’s Kingdom for our community. This is the basis to help us operate with wisdom and discernment, to dream, plan and prepare in accordance to God’s will for the city of Craigavon. On a practical level, you will have an opportunity to engage with detached work, drop-ins, small groups, schools work, mentoring, breakfast clubs, supporting local youth ministries and other local faith-based organisations as well as other local service providers.

We are really expectant for the next step in our CYFC journey and are excited about the possibility of having an intern join the team.

Crumlin

The story of Crumlin is of a village that has grown quickly into a small town with a booming youth population. Like many towns, Crumlin has its own issues, divisions and reputation, but God is in the process of rewriting that story and we have clearly seen God move over the past 4 years.

We dream of reaching an unreached generation by journeying DEEPER with young people and reaching out WIDER into the margins of the community to see young people and their community transformed by Jesus.

You could be part of this exciting new chapter by building relationships with unreached young people through detached, Drop-In and schools work; supporting young people through mentoring, church engagement and small groups. You will also be involved in developing and piloting new programmes, partnering with local organisations and churches and being open to what God calls us to in this new chapter in His story of Crumlin.

Donaghadee

Having opened in May 1995, Donagadee YFC is a well established and loved part of the community. We are based right in the centre of the gorgeous seaside town of Donaghadee and have been described as a ‘light in our community’. We work with at risk young people from the local estates, with young families, in local schools and also run drop-in and group work in our centre.

Our dream for the next year is to develop small groups & further opportunities in our local housing estates by building relationships and working in partnership with other organisations and churches.

As an intern, you will serve as part of a team building relationships with young people, helping to develop and deliver many of our programmes including:

* S.U. groups in Donaghadee Primary School
* Year 8’s & 9’s group on Monday’s
* Primary 6 & 7 Kids Bible Bizz groups on Tuesday & Wednesday’s
* Year 8-11’s on Friday nights & Sunday nights

We are really looking forward to having an intern join our team and enhance our work. We know that you will be a blessing and be blessed as you spend time with young people and the community in Donaghadee.

YFCNI Comms & Media

Communications involves a diverse range of skills from copywriting, graphic design, web management, storytelling, content creation, photography, videography, and social media development.

A YFCNI Comms & Media intern by based in Belfast at our National Office on Albertbridge road. You will have the opportunity to invest time and skills into one or more of these areas to enhance the impact of the comms ministry of YFCNI. During the internship, YFCNI will invest in you as an individual both spiritually and strategically, as well and connecting you with a professional mentor within the field of communications and marketing.

We see communication in YFCNI as being more than just communicating what we do. It is in and of itself a ministry opportunity and a way to reach young people and the wider community with the good news of the gospel and to share stories of what God is doing through YFC centres on the ground in various locations around Northern Ireland.

We are excited about the possibility of this role and know the right person could shape and help give direction to what we do in terms of communcation.
