NOMAD Mission

The sports teams within YFCNI aim to use their own passion for sport and Jesus to connect with young people both in and out of the church.  The teams use their own sports skills and testimony to encourage the young people in their own abilities and encourage their self-growth and confidence.

NOMAD Vision

By 2012, we want to have established a NOMAD team in Banbridge District Council and ventured out into other councils working in partnership with Community Police reaching the unreached. We also want to help achieve the YFCNI vision by being involved in schools work, centres work and creative ministry and evangelism.

The cage

This is the only football cage in Northern Ireland! The idea behind the cage is to draw a crowd so that we can have meaningful conversations with young people.

Inside the football cage, you are encouraged to use skill rather than force.  We want to encourage young people to face their opponents, which can translate into young people facing their fears rather than running away from them.

Would I be a good team member?

1.   Do I love Jesus?
2.   Do I love working with young people?
3.   Can I strike up a conversation with anyone about anything?
4.   Am I hard working?
5.   Am I up for early mornings and late nights?
6.   Do I like to travel?
7.   Do I like to share my faith with others?
8.   Can I work well with others?
9.   Do I like football?
10. Am I good at football?

If you answer no to Q10- it's ok!
It’s not about the football.  It’s not even about the cage.  It’s about young people.

What will I do on NOMAD?
The team use their passions and skills in playing and coaching football to generate excitement amongst young people. Nomad can set up their Football Cage in any school hall or playground; field or courtyard; or any area of flat land within estates – both indoors and outdoors.  The cage instantly creates an excitement amongst young people from where the team can give coaching sessions, hold tournaments and encourage participation within freestyle exhibitions. Furthermore, when the atmosphere allows, the cage creates a great centre piece from which team members (or accompanying speakers) can share their testimony or give a short evangelistic talk.

As youth workers the Nomad team are keen to work with young people, encouraging learning and enjoyment through participation.

Nomad is made up of people who love God and have a passion to play football. Every Nomad team member uses their gifting as football players and youth workers to build relationships with the young people.

During a week, the team can be involved in the following: Community work, schools work or church work
