Elaine Ross &
Jessica Hilgenberg - LIT Placements
This has
been a momentous year for GBYFC. We were
granted charitable status and held our
first AGM in March 2004.
Local
schools had indicated openness to
Christian youth workers visiting. After
further prayer and discussion at Board
level we felt very strongly that we
should apply for a LIT team. We were
thrilled when YFCNI informed us at the
beginning of the summer that we were to
be allocated two Leaders In Training
workers, Elaine Ross and Jessica
Hilgenberg.
Since
September, Elaine and Jess have visited
eight local primary schools regularly for
assemblies and SUs. They have
established strong contacts with the
secondary school, taking assemblies,
lessons and visiting the sixth-form
centre and youth centre. They have taken
S.U. and assembly in Ballyclare High
School and plan to offer schools a
portfolio of activities to choose from. A
breakfast club started in Ballyclare
Presbyterian has expanded to three days a
week with many young people attending.
Strong links are being built up.
Axiom
visited from 14th-18th
March, culminating in a concert in
Sixmile Leisure Centre with upwards of
200 teenagers attending. Altogether 2000+
young people have been reached for Christ
this past year.
Fundraisers
included a cookbook selling 500 copies,
supermarket bag-packing and runners in
the Belfast Marathon and Lisburn Fun Run.
Next year we abseil from the BT tower!
For the
coming year we need more board members
and volunteers to avoid being
overstretched. We pray for strengthening
links with local churches and hope to
host a Summerserve team. God has blessed
the work here and we want to develop our
prayer ministry to involve many more
local Christians. We also need to
increase our number of monthly donors.
There continue to be amazing
opportunities for outreach in Ballyclare.
